Trip to the ER

Jonah has been pretty stable at home up until Thursday night. Rob had to turn up his oxygen once because he was struggling with his breathing, then he had another spell that he recovered from on his own. On Friday he had a couple seizures that lasted about 15 minutes each. He usually has a couple seizures a day but they only last one or two minutes. We were worried the pressure in his head was causing these unusual behaviors so we took a head measurement and it has grown since we left the NICU.

So this morning we packed up Jonah and all his gear and took our circus on the road to Primary Children's. After seeing the Neurologist and the Neurosurgeon it was determined that Jonah needs more seizure medication and a shunt. They let us bring him home today (YAY!), and we go back Monday for a consultation and Tuesday for surgery. Darn. We were hoping to avoid surgery for a while. Anyway that's the plan for now.

Jonah hasn't been out in the world yet except for Tuesday's visit to his pediatrician. But on the way home from a very long day in Salt Lake we decided to stop for some respite at Provo High and watch Mariah's basketball games. She played very well. Jonah was doing dance moves and backflips. Maybe more like seizure activity. And we had to sit by an outlet so we could plug in his heating pad, but it was well worth it. Saturday games are like our reward for the week, Rob and I love being fans. A pastime Jonah is sure to embrace since being born into the White family requires a high tolerance for game-watching. He's already begging to watch the other kids next Saturday.:)

  3. That stinks about the surgery so soon. On the one hand, shunts are the pits, but on the other, it's amazing what modern medicine can help. I hope his seizures get better. I would imagine those are scary to deal with, even if they are a common occurrence. We will pray for a strong little man through his surgery tomorrow. Hugs to you all!

PS -- I LOVE the pictures. You have such a beautiful family.
